After the concert in Alte Oper Frankfurt the audience applauded for two encores, and the reviewers were impressed by the high quality of the ensemble that Christian Zacharias has formed in his 13 years as principal conductor. The reviews were unanimously enthusiastic about the successful concert. The nuanced interpretation of Elgar’s Serenade op. 20 was praised, as well as the performance of Schumann’s Symphony no. 2, which Frankfurter Rundschau called a “revelation.” Especially praised was the coherent interpretation of the Beethoven Piano Concerto no. 3, of which Christian Zacharias led from the piano.
