This Thursday, 24th September, and Sunday, 27th September, Christian Zacharias will take the conductor’s stand to lead the Orchestre National de France in Paris in its performance of Schubert’s “Rosamunde“ and his 8th „unfinished“ symphony and then the grand piano to play Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto.

In 1803, Beethoven himself played the original premiere in Vienna, the only one of his piano concertos in a minor key. In his current programmes, Christian Zacharias contrasts this piece with two of Schubert’s compositions. In 1823, the original premiere of the play “Rosamunde“ was also performed in Vienna. Christian Zacharias is conducting the entire stage music for the play about the young princess of Cyprus that spans 10 musical pieces in addition to the well known overture. Today, it is still unclear as to why Schubert never completed his 8th symphony. Only in 1865, after the composer had died, was the original premiere performed; it is without a doubt one of his most well known, remarkable works of music.
