On February 15th and 16th, Christian Zacharias conducts the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in a classical program with Haydn’s Symphony No. 83 “La Poule” and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19, tinted with French colors by Poulencs Sinfonietta from 1947. From Norway Christian Zacharias then travels to Canada. In Montréal, he will play Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major on February 21st, 24th, and 25th together with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and Edo de Waart conducting. This early concerto shows Beethoven’s gradual detachment from his Viennese predecessors to his own genius. Christian Zacharias is just the right pianist for the musical sensitivity, attention to detail and technical accuracy that the work demands of the performer, and one can look forward to a masterful realization.
